Abstract

525,333. Bomb fuzes. HUBERT ES SIGMUND ACELES FEMARUGYAR RESZVENYTARSASAG. Feb. 17, 1939, No. 5291. Convention date, July 13, 1938. [Class 9 (i)] The ignition current in an electric percussion fuze is induced by the creation or closing of an air-gap between the separable parts of the softiron armature of a ring-shaped magnet. In one form, the magnet 2 has soft-iron pole-pieces 3, 4, and a two-part armature 7, 8, the part 7 having a spigot portion 11 on which is carried the induction coil 13 of the firing circuit 21. The two parts 7, 8 are normally held in contact by elastic supporting elements 15, 16, and have conical surfaces 9, 10 seated upon conical seats 5, 6, respectively, in the non-magnetic casing 1 of the fuze. On impact, in any position of the fuze, the armature parts 7, 8 are caused' to separate and open an air gap in the path of the magnetic lines of force, thus inducing the firing . current in the circuit 21. In a modification, the two parts of an armature are held apart against the action of a spring by detents which are removed by the action of a clockwork device that is started by the impact and releases the armature, so as to close the air-gap, after a predetermined time lag.
