Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the retention of a normally closed or opened state after the operation of a plunger even if the energization of an electromagnetic coil is not continued, by enabling the operation of the plunger in both directions by the instantaneous energization of the electromagnetic coil.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic flux oriented from the top of a plunger 14 toward its bottom is produced in the plunger when an electromagnetic coil 7 is instantaneously energized in a direction to cancel magnetic flux oriented from the bottom of the valve-closed plunger to its top. As a result, an N-pole appears on the conical concave face 14b of the plunger and an S-pole is produced on the conical face 15a of a core 15 by magnetic induction. Therefore, an attractive force acts between the core 15 and the plunger 14. The plunger 14 is attracted onto the core 15 if the electromagnetic coil 7 is so energized that the attractive force is stronger than the elastic force of a spring 16 which acts to the plunger 14. When the electromagnetic coil 7 is thereafter deenergized, the plunger 14 remains attracted on the core 15 by an attractive force caused by magnetic induction due to a permanent magnet 12.
