Abstract
525,136. Mustard oils. 1. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. Feb. 14, 1939, No. 4882. Convention date, Feb. 17, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] Mustard oils are made by heating chlorolefines in which a chlorine atom is in α-position to an olefinic double bond with an aqueous solution of a thiocyanate. Suitable chlorolefines are alkyl chloride and its homologues, such as 1-chlorbutene-2, 1-chlor-2-methylbutene-2, and also chlorolefines containing further chlorine atoms, e.g. 1.3-dichlorpropene-2. Mixtures may also be used, including mixtures with saturated chlorohydrocarbons, which are unaffected by the reaction. The products may be converted into unsaturated amines by heating with aqueous acids or alkalies. In examples, allyl chloride, 1.3-dichlorpropene-2, and a mixture of the latter with 1.2-dichlorpropane are heated with aqueous solutions of potassium or magnesium thiocyanate.
