Abstract
524,881. Vaporizers. SOC. HELLENIQUE INDUSTRIELLE DES GAZOFACTEURS BERHOUDAR SOC. ANON. Feb. 9, 1939, Nos. 4332 and 4333. Convention dates, Feb. 26, 1938, and July 25, 1938. [Class 7 (iii)] Exhaust gases are used to inject heavy fuel into a partial combustion vaporizer. The gases are admitted through a nozzle 2 and induce heavy fuel from a float chamber 7. The vaporizer is heated initially by mixture from a spray carburetter, an air valve 19 being open and the charge being ignited by a sparking plug 16. The chamber 26 contains a cone 9 with air inlet passages 15, 10, grids 11 and balls 27, 28 of copper, iron, nickel, platinum, palladium or silver, which serves as a catalyst. The chambers 23, 26 are lined with refractory earth 21, 8, and an air space surrounds the chamber 26. The generated gas passes through an expansion chamber 14 into a cooling chamber 32 which contains rods 30 attached to a cover 29, the rods scraping the chamber when the cover is removed. The gas is drawn through the space between a cone 34 and a suctionactuated valve 37 into a chamber 50 where it is mixed with air drawn through a Venturi 40 from a passage 35 containing a valve 36. Further air may be admitted around the chamber 50 through a passage containing a suctionactuated valve 38. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the fuel pipe 17 discharges directly into the nozzle 2 and the chamber 26 has a lining of copper and is surrounded by a jacket 54a to which exhaust gas is admitted tangentially through a pipe 55a. The jacket is surrounded by an annular space 57 containing heat insulating material. To indicate when the temperature of the chamber 26 is sufficiently high for the valve 19 to be closed contacts 60, 61 close a circuit to illuminate a lamp or move a pointer over a dial. After leaving the cooling chamber 32 the gas is admitted through nozzles 69 into a Venturi tube 67 where it is mixed with air which enters through a suctionactuated valve 75. The Venturi tube is provided with a handle 77 to facilitate its removal. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that air supplied by a rotary blower may induce the fuel. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
