Vaporizers, external.-An apparatus for preparing a rich mixture adapted, when mixed with secondary air, for use in an internal-combustion engine, comprises a casing b provided with a tangential inlet f and outlets f<1> for the rich mixture, and containing a helical member e traversed by a number of tubes d<1> formed of one of the metals which are known, when heated, to effect the catalytic decomposition of hydrocarbons. The casing b is surrounded by a jacket a to which exhaust gases are admitted at h, the gases passing around the casing b and through the tubes d<1> to the outlet g. The member e is formed around a tube i which may contain an electric heater k carried by a support j.
