Abstract
398,182. Vaporizers. BALACHOWSKY, D., and CAIRE, P., 1, Rue Volney, Paris. Feb. 27, 1932, No. 5909. [Class 7 (iii).] A rich mixture is formed by air passing a filter q and entering a vessel v fed with fuel from a float chamber p through a restricted orifice r, and is supplied by a pipe s to a chamber i. The mixture is passed through tubes h made of iron, copper, nickel, or alloys of these metals, and is catalyzed in them by the heat of the exhaust gases passing around the tubes. A valve 2 allows a small quantity of exhaust to be added to the rich mixture, which, after leaving the tubes, is mixed with secondary air supplied through a port y from a casing c open to the atmosphere at z. The tubes h are enclosed in an insulated jacket d filled with foundry sand. A screw 7 closes one of the tubes, which may be used to supply a mixture for slow running adjacent to the throttle valve 1; or a light fuel air mixture may be supplied. Electrical resistances may also be used for heating purposes. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, exhaust gases from the engine are supplied through a pipe 13 to an emulsifier 20, and the rich mixture produced heated electrically by coils 18, by exhaust passing through tubes 16, and if desired by electric resistances 18a, and the heated mixture is mixed with cold air supplied through a valve 15. A pipe 12 may convey burnt gas which has not been expanded to the emulsifier 20. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 236,914, 296,755, [both in Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting-apparatus &c. for], and 374,910, (as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts), 265,186 and 302,717, [both in Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting- apparatus &c. for].
