524,639. Oil engines. BOGHETTO, F., and CAPITANI, S. DE, [trading as SOC. BREVETTI TERMICI DI ING. CAPITANI, S. DE E DI BOGHETTO, F.]. Feb. 2, 1939, No. 3521. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1938. [Class 7 (iii)] A combustion chamber 1 in which is a sparking plug 6 or other igniter and a fuel injector 4 is separated from the cylinder by a narrow neck or constriction, the area of which is not less than one-third of the cross-section of the chamber. The chamber may have inclined walls as shown in Fig. 1 and the shape of the fuel jet is such that it embraces the whole area of the neck 2. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the fuel is sprayed on to a spreader 5 which determines the area of the neck. The fuel admission is completed before the end of the compression stroke and a stratified air layer which protects the fuel injector lies in the neighbourhood of the closed end of the chamber. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 a construction is described in which a vertical fuel injector is housed in an inclined combustion chamber and in a second construction the chamber is vertical a fuel injector being disposed adjacent the opening into the cylinder. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
