Abstract

523,680. Luminescent materials. DAY A. S., and CLIFFORD, Ltd., F. W. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 994. [Class 39 (i)] Surfaces, such as walls and ceilings, are wholly or partly coated with fluorescent materials, such as zinc sulphide, calcium sulphide, barium sulphide, or zinc orthosilicate, by spraying it with the substances suspended in a suitable liquid and covering the dried fluorescent layer with ethyl cellulose or nitrocellulose. Ethyl cellulose or nitrocellulose in a volatile solvent are preferably employed as a vehicle for the fluorescent material, and daylight coloured effects may be produced by adding pigments. Designs in differently coloured luminescence may be produced by spraying the appropriate materials through a stencil.
