Abstract
446,765. Fluorescent screens. CHEMISCHE FABRIK VON HEYDEN AKT.- GES., Radebeul, Dresden, Germany. Nov. 19, 1934, No. 33251. Convention date, Nov. 18, 1933. [Class 98 (i)] Fluorescent materials such as zinc sulphide and zinc cadmium sulphide, which blacken on exposure to daylight, are treated to coat each individual particle with a thin, protective, coloured layer by suspending the particles in a dilute solution of a film-forming material containing a protective colouring agent, filtering, and drying the residual. coated particles. As colouring agents, dyestuffs are used which are found to be effective for preventing blackening of the particular fluorescent materials employed. In examples, particles of zinc cadmium sulphide are coated by suspension in a dilute-solution of water-glass containing Auramine, or Auramine and Brilliant Green. The screen layer is prepared in known manner from the coated particles mixed with a binder such as a cellulose ester. Reference is made to known fluorescent layers in which the fluorescent material is itself coloured or is mixed with a binder to which colouring matter has been added ; and also to the addition of cobalt to lithopones.
