Abstract
A lamp screen shade, or reflector is provided with a coating containing a neodymium compound or is made of a transparent or translucent material, other than glass, containing a neodymium compound. A translucent paper, cardboard, or fibrous material may be soaked in neodymium ammonium nitrate and then coated on both sides with lacquer, or the soaking solution may be mixed with a binder such as wheat starch, turkey gum, or gelatine, and the neodymium salt then deposited in solid form by evaporation. Another method consists in dusting a plate of glass, cellulose acetate, or other transparent material with a white or coloured powder such as barium sulphate or magnesia, the powder being fixed by means of a binder such as water glass containing neodymium. Alternatively, the neodymium may be mixed with the powdered material. A further method consists in intimately mixing an organic lacquer with an aqueous solution of neodymium salt to form an emulsion which is distributed over a transparent or translucent carrier and allowed to dry. A still further method consists in pouring an aqueous solution of neodymium ammonium nitrate over a plane transparent carrier and allowing it to evaporate slowly. In this case the viscosity of the solution may be increased by the addition of wheat starch, turkey gum, or gelatine, and the coating may be protected by a coating of lacquer.ALSO:A lamp screen, shade, or reflector is provided with a coating containing a neodymium compound.
