Abstract
1,149,050. Coating photographic materials. ILFORD Ltd. Nov.24, 1967 [Dec.7, 1966], No.53173/66. Heading G2C. Photographic materials in which at least one of the layers is a gelatine layer, e.g. a gelatine silver halide emulsion layer, are made by depositing said gelatine layer on a support from aqueous solution or emulsion, setting the layer by chilling it and drying the layer, the aqueous solution or emulsion being characterized in that it contains a minor proportion of a sodium cellulose sulphate which has a degree of substitution of 2À2 to 2À7 and has a viscosity in the range of 20 to 160 centipoises as a 5% by weight aqueous solution at 20‹C. When the compound is used in a silver halide emulsion a speed increase is sometimes obtained.
