Abstract

1345533 Silver halide materials AGFAGEVAERT 26 April 1971 [4 June 1970] 27049/70 Heading G2C [Also in Division C3] A silver halide photographic material has at least one layer, comprising a hydrophilic colloid and at least one surfactant R(CH 2 ) n (OCH 2 CH 2 ) m OSO 3 M wherein:- m is 0 and n is 1, or m is 1-30 and n is 0 or 1; M is H, alkali metal, NH 4 or substituted NH 4 ; R is branchedchain C 8 - C 20 aliphatic, having at least 2 points of branching, or is cycloaliphatic. The colloid is preferably gelatine, but glue, casein, zein, gum arabic, sodium alginate, various celluloses and certain synthetic hydrophilic polymers are mentioned. The surfactant preferably amounts to 0À01-5% by wt. of the dry colloid. Surfactants exemplified are sodium i-octadecyl and hydroabietyl sulphates, and sodium, lithium, potassium, and triethylammonium i-hexodecyl sulphates. The layer may be a silver halide emulsion layer or it may be an anti-halation, protective, filter, intermediate or anti-curling layer coated on a substrate which may be previously subbed. In Examples 1-3 an aqueous solution of gelatine and surfactant is coated on subbed cellulose triacetate.
