Abstract
523,634. Fusible cut-outs. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTrON CO., Ltd., HUNTER, P. V., and METCALF, A. W. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 943. Addition to 475,448. [Class 38 (i)] A cartridge fuse having the fuse element 1 enclosed in a tube 4 of glass packed within an outer tube 5, has the tube 4 turned inwards at its ends to leave apertures only large enough for the passage of the element 1. Cement 7 is employed to close both the outer tube 5 and the apertures in the tube 4. The space between the tube or tubes 4 and the outer tube 5 is filled with plaster of Paris G. The fuse element 1. may be a wire of high melting-point metal with a portion 2 of reduced cross-section and a bead 3 of low melting-point metal. In a multiple wire fuse the ends of the wires 1 are cranked inwardly and twisted together, the several tubes 4 being located in recesses in the outer tube 5 which is of inorganic insulating non-hygroscopic material.
