Abstract
556,618. Electric cut-outs. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., MARTIN, W. W., THOMAS, J. A., and GROOM, F. H. April 10, 1942, No. 4735. [Class 38 (i)] A fusible element comprises a main portion consisting of one or more strips of metal having a high melting-point, such as silver, and a localized body which has only a small calorific capacity and is connected to the main portion without the application of heat, as by being clipped or wound thereon, and in a manner which prevents longitudinal movement between the main portion and the localized body. The main portion may consist of a single silver strip A, Fig. 1, provided about midway of its length with two opposed notches B, and a strip of low melting-point metal such as pure tin may be wrapped around the reduced portion between the notches. If desired, additional notches D are provided and low-melting point strip may be wrapped around one or more of these additional narrowed portions. In another construction, the main portion may consist of two similar wires A<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, which have their ends spaced apart and secured to terminals E. The two wires are drawn together, about midway of their length, by being wrapped with a short length C<SP>1</SP> of tin wire. Two or more of the fusible elements may be joined in parallel with their ends in a suitable holder which may be of the cartridge type.
