Abstract

487,430. Fusible cut-outs. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., HUNTER, P. V., and METCALF, A. W. Jan. 30, 1937, No. 2786. [Class 38 (i)] A cartridge fuse contains a large number of separate chambers each traversed by a fuse wire or wires. An approximate formula for the number of chambers is C/12-2 where C is the rated carrying current, As shown a block 5 has fifteen chambers each traversed by a fuse wire 1 having a reduced cross sectional area at the centre. The wire is surrounded by sand contained in a tube 2 spaced from the block also by sand. The tubes and chambers are closed by plugs 4, 7 of plaster of Paris. The chambers may be constituted by an assemblage of separate tubes held together.
