Abstract

523,049. Knitting-machines. BLACKBURN & SONS, Ltd., G., START, H. W., and START, E. Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33894. [Class 74 (ii)] The knocking-over bar H of a Cotton machine adapted to knit tabs at an intermediate point in a stocking &c. is disposed in front of the needle-bar A and is coupled thereto so that it can be moved back therewith. The bar H is carried on two short arms H<SP>1</SP> preferably provided with adjustable forked ends H<SP>3</SP> resting on pins in the ends of arms H<SP>2</SP>. Links K connect the arms H' to bell cranks L on a shaft M under the tension of a spring N which maintains forks K<SP>1</SP> in connection with pins L<SP>1</SP>. Rocking motion is transmitted to the shaft M by a bell crank loosely pivoted on the shaft and carrying at one end an anti-friction roller running on a cam on the main shaft F while the other end carries a pin engaging an arm O. The needle-bar A carries abutments P, which when the bar is in its highest position, as shown, can impinge on similar abutments Q on the knocking-over bar H so that the two can be moved back together. The bar H can be moved back independently of the bar A by means of a hand lever R and link S connected to the arms O. In a modified form of knocking-over bar coupling, an extension on an arm connected to the needle-bar is adapted to engage an arm associated with the knocking-over bar operating mechanism to move the two bars back together.
