Abstract
559,435. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. Sept. 18, 1942, No. 13212. Convention date, Sept. 10. 1941. [Class 74 (ii)] A circular machine having wrap thread patterning means is provided with a stop motion operated upon the breakage of, or excessive slack in, a wrap thread. The usual takeup arms 13 are used to actuate the stop motion and a blade member 50 is positioned to be engaged by an arm 13 in abnormal position. The blade 50 is mounted upon a shaft 32 carrying a latch (not shown) which normally holds a clawshaped member on a slide 34 secured to a Bowden wire 38. The wire 38 is connected at its other end to a lever 86 carrying a latch member 84 engaging a catch 83 upon a spring-controlled slide 71 supporting the belt-shifting fork 70. In operation, engagement of a yarn take-up arm 13 with the blade 50 rotates the shaft 32, freeing the slide 34 and releasing the slide 71 so that the driving belt is moved from the driving pulley 69 to the loose pulley. Pattern-controlled means are provided for raising the wrapping head out of active position when knitting the heel or toe of a stocking or for transferring a rib top to the needles, and the same patterning cams may be used to swing the bracket 30 supporting the shaft 32 so that the blade 50 is moved from operative position. A hand lever is also provided for this purpose. A second hand lever 96 is also provided for freeing the catch 83 from the latch member 84 for stopping the machine. Specification 402,618 is referred to.
