Abstract
227,333. VallÝn, C. April 23, 1924. Stop-motions.-Relates to an electrically operated device for preventing the knitting yarn from becoming broken under abnormal tension by stopping the machine. When abnormal tension is put on the yarn 42, which is normally supported by crossed spring rods 32, 33 pivoted at 40, 41, the rod 32 is drawn down sufficiently for the end 39 to force a lug 38 on a rod 37 into contact with a rod 36 and to complete the circuit. An electromagnet 30 thus excited lifts a catch 28 which releases a. lever 24, 26 and allows it to move about the pivot 25 under the influence of a spring 27. The end 26 by rising comes in contact with the teeth 11 of a ring 10 mounted on a recessed plate 8 on the end of a hollow shaft. A spiral spring 13 is attached at one end 12 to the ring 10 and at the other end to the plate 8. In the ring 10 is a notch 16 into which the tail 17 of a trigger 18 enters. A spring 21 holds the tail 17 in the notch 16 and also holds a tooth 22 on the inner end of the trigger in engagement with projections 5 or 6 on a ring connected to the driving shaft 3. While the tail 17 remains in the notch 16 the shaft 3 continues to drive the machine, but when the ring 10 is held from rotation with the plate 8 by the action of the lever 26, 24, the parts 22 and 5 or 6 move out of engagement and the machine is stopped. Meanwhile the loop of yarn 42 no longer supported by the rods 32, 33 provides slack to be knitted up to prevent the work from running off the needles.
