Abstract
1338453 Knitting-machines N LEVIN and T A OLIVER Jnr 16 Dec 1971 [4 Feb 1971] 58532/71 Heading D1C A stop motion for a creel of a circular knitting machine is automatically resettable after it has responded to excessive yarn tension. The stop motion comprises a lever 30 attached to a collar 34 rotatable on a shaft 28. The running yarn passes across the bifurcated end 30a of the lever and supports a feeler 58. If the yarn slackens, the feeler contacts a stop bar 48 to initiate stoppage of the machine. The lever 30 is normally held in a horizontal position by a pivoted lever 60 urged by a spring 76 so that a notch 60a engages a pin 46 on the lever. If the yarn is tensioned excessively the lever 30 drops, the end 60b of lever 60 is urged into contact with a wire 80. This initiates stoppage of the machine, and resetting of the device after a short delay to allow the working parts to come to rest. The lever is reset by a second collar 38 which is fixed to shaft 28. On rotation of the shaft screw head 42 abuts head 36, so that the collar 34 and lever 30 are raised to a horizontal position. The shaft 28 is rotated by a chain engaging a sprocket and moved by a pneumatic cylinder. The lever 30 is latched to lever 60 by increased pneumatic pressure at the end of the cycle. It is expected that the raising of the lever will release the yarn from any condition causing it to be tensioned excessively. If the yarn is not released lever 60 remains in contact with wire 80 and the machine will not restart. The resetting mechanism is itself reset by slowly venting the pneumatic cylinder.
