[Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXIX] In a hydraulic pump or motor of the multipiston and adjustable swash-plate type in which each piston 4 is connected by a rod 5 hingedly connected, as by a ball 6, to the driving or driven member 7, the external form of the connecting rods and the internal form of the pistons 4 are such that, during a portion of each revolution, one or more of the connecting rods will bear against one or more of the skirts of the pistons and thereby cause the cylinder block 1. and the member 7 to rotate in synchronism. The pistons may be hollow cylinders and the connecting rods conical with their generatrices tangential to the balls 12. Auxiliary centering means may be provided by a cup 15 on the member 7 engaged by a ball 14 carried by a spring-pressed piston in a bore 16 in the block 1 ; this arrangement may be reversed. The end surface of the block 1 is engaged by a controlling surface 11 on an angularly adjustable frame. These surfaces may be plane, or they may be spherical, as shown. The feeding conduits lead to controlling slots 18 at right angles to the surface 11 and provided with equilibrium chambers.
