Abstract
521,683. Piles. RICHES, V. C., D. (Riches, H. G. G. G.). March 2, 1939, No. 28453. Divided out of 521,682. Drawings to Specification. [Class 68 (ii)] In methods of sinking concrete piles in which a tube, which is subsequently removed, is sunk into the ground to form a socket for a precast pile, the pile is built up to the required length from two or more precast units with ends shaped to form joints and rigidly connected. A long precast unit may be connected to one or more short units to make up the required length. A spigot and socket connection with transverse locking bars may be used. Cement, concrete &c. is poured into the space formed by a cylindrical extension of the socket before assembly thus embedding the reinforcing rods which project from adjacent units into space. Axial and circumferential reinforcement may be provided in the precast units. The holes which receive the bars may be encircled by the hooked ends of axial reinforcing bars. Pipe sections may be driven into the ground outside the tube and are joined to the precast core when the tube is removed. Specifications 521,644 and 521,681 are referred to.
