Abstract
715,719. Piles. STENT PRECAST CONCRETE, Ltd. Oct. 16, 1953 [Aug. 18, 1952], No. 20691/52. Class 68(2) In a sectional pre-stressed concrete pile built up from tubular units a provided with shallow spigot and socket connections, the alignment of ducts e for post-tensioned high tensile steel wires d is ensured by the inter-fitting of radially staggered portions g<SP>1</SP> of the circumference of the sockets and spigots g. Preferably the spigots are each formed on a closed end of units a and preferably the circumference is divided into four symmetrical portions. As the pile is assembled the wires d, anchored over bars m, are run through ducts e and the joints cemented. The assembling and pretensioning are carried out in a horizontal position after which grout is injected into ducts e to hold the wires d. Reinforcing rods of a structure built on the pile may be screwed into anchor blocks s or, alternatively, the head c may be removed and the lower ends of the rods embedded in concrete in the cavity of the uppermost unit a. Toe unit b has a cast steel tip i with straps embedded in concrete. Spacers q are provided in head unit c and wire grips bear on anchor blocks s on anchor plates t. Ducts e are flared at e<SP>1</SP> and the spigots and sockets may be of frusto-conical formation.
