Abstract

1,029,796. Reinforced concrete piles and columns. J. BOLTON. Oct. 30, 1964 [Aug. 9, 1963], No.31507/63. Headings E1H and E1V. A reinforced concrete pile or column comprises coaxial tubular sections 1, 1A, 1N, placed one above the other alternating with collars 3 which form abutments or anchorages for metallic reinforcements 7 in the coaxial sections, the reinforcements being embedded in concrete poured into the sections. Nuts 7 on the ends of the reinforcements are screwed down against the collars after the reinforcements have been tensioned by jacking means. Reinforcements 7, in one section may be staggered in relation to the reinforcements 7A in an adjacent section or the reinforcements of one section may be connected endwise to the reinforcements of an adjacent section. The collars on one or both sides may have spigots 10 which enter the bores of adjoining sections 1, 1A. When formed as a pile, the lower end of the lower section 1 carries a pile shoe 2 in which screwed studs 5 project from an embedded anchoring plate 4 to provide for connection of the reinforcements 7 to the shoe 2. When formed as a column, Fig. 2 (not shown) the lower section 1 is placed over reinforcements projecting from a concrete raft or foundation, the lower ends of the reinforcements 7 being connected to such projecting reinforcements. The collar may be used to support a floor, in which case the spigot 10 is provided only on its lower side. The next column section is supported on the floor through which pass intermediate rods to connect together reinforcements in the two column sections. Spiral reinforcement 8 may encircle the reinforcement 7.
