Abstract
486,511. Reinforced concrete. KERFF, G. Aug. 31, 1936, No. 23863. Void. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1935. [Class 20 (iv)] Means for connecting together rods 2 used in reinforcing concrete comprises a sleeve 1 in which the rods are arranged, such sleeve having a smooth inner surface without any projections or recesses and being adapted to be filled under pressure with a plastic material 5, such as concrete. The adjacent ends of the rods are of twisted or spiral form, and each rod may consist of two bars which are twisted together in the cold state. The sleeve 1 may be provided with openings 3, through which the plastic material may be fed from a tube 4 adapted to be secured on the sleeve 1 by a clamp 8 which may be welded. to the sleeve or secured thereto by a wedge 11. Filters 6 are fitted on the ends of the sleeve 1 and these are adapted to permit the passage of air and excess water during the filling of the sleeve. If desired, the coupling may be used for coupling together rods which are located at an angle to each other, in which case two sleeves are arranged at the desired angle to each other and are filled with concrete.
