Abstract

521,632. Engine pistons. COVENTRY CLIMAX ENGINES, Ltd., HATHAWAY, L., and MOORE, A. W. Nov. 24, 1938, No. 34145. [Class 122 (i)] A spiral wall 23 forms a tortuous lubricating and cooling passage in the crown of the piston, which is screwed on to the body and contains a gudgeon pin. Oil is forced along a bore 19 in the connecting-rod, or a pipe carried by the rod, into a groove in the gudgeon-pin bearing, thence through the interior of the pin, and by passages 22 into the spiral passage. The oil leaves this passage at the middle, passing by a bore 24 into the piston body, and finally passing out through escape holes in a piston groove.
