Abstract
521,609. Pipe joints. JOHNSON, P. G. Nov. 22, 1938, No: 33995. [Class 99 (i)] In a device of the kind in which a leaky spigot-and-socket joint is sealed by a gasket compressed against the end of the socket and around the spigot by clamping-elements comprising a number of inter-connected segments, one or more of the connections between the segments consists of a pair of brushes 13, eccentrically mounted on a common pivot bolt 15 and disposed within overlapping eyes 12 on the ends of the segments 2. Each bush has a hand grip 16 so that it may be rotated to vary the circumferential length of the element. The faces 13a of the bushes may have complementary formations so as to locate them in any of a predetermined number of relative positions. The web 4 of one segment is bent to overlap the other, the space 2a being filled by a distancepiece.
