[Class 38 (ii)] In an inductance the value of which is adjusted by movement of an iron dust core, the relationship between the dimensions of the core and winding is so chosen that the Q value of the coil remains substantially unaffected by alteration in the value of the inductance. A pair of such coils 4 for coupling intermediate frequency stages in a superheterodyne radio receiver have their cores 6 mounted on a common adjusting rod 7 so as to remain a fixed distance apart and one of the coils, e.g., the upper one, is arranged for independent adjustment with respect to its core, e.g., by a screwed sleeve 12.
