518,802. Making emulsions. NATIONAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29783. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1937. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Groups VIII and IV] In the manufacture of paper &c., gummy.or resinous substances denoted " pitch " are removed from the pulp by adding an organic solvent immiscible with water, e.g., aliphatic or, aromatic hydrocarbons or their halogen derivatives, kerosene, deodorized kerosene, benzenegasoline, or naphtha and subsequently emulsifying the mixture as by adding soaps sulphonated aliphatic or aromatic substances, such as sulphonated fatty acids, fatty alcohols, fatty esters or derivatives, oils, waxes or glycerides. In an example are specified kerosene, and 15 to 35 per cent. by weight of a 50/50 mixture of sulphonated sperm and castor oils.
