Abstract
518,126. Detecting leaks in iron apparatus. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Aug. 9, 1938, No. 23493. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1937. [Class 81 (i)] In a method of testing iron absorptionrefrigeration apparatus-for leakages, wherein a detecting medium such as ammonia is applied under pressure to the interior of the vessel and an indicator such as phenol-phthalein is applied to the exterior, a protective medium containing chromate or bichromate ions is applied to the exterior of the apparatus or is mixed with the indicator liquid to prevent false indications due to rusting &c. of the iron surface. A suitable mixture for application to the apparatus consists of 2,000 parts of water, 1,000 of chalk, 10 of potassium dichromate, and 5 of phenolphthalein.
