Abstract

<PICT:0495849/III/1> In a process of measuring the characteristics of fermentation two identical samples of the material are employed; the whole of the gas generated by one sample is measured, and in the other case the liberated gas is absorbed so that only the gas which remains occluded in the material is measured. The apparatus may comprise two oil-sealed suspended bells 3, the movement of which operates indicators 4, 41, the samples 14 being inserted through fluid-tight doors 12 in the bases of the chambers 1. One chamber has a ring 16 of potashimpregnated felt to absorb the free carbon dioxide.
