Abstract

1,273,379. Leak testing. VAN LEER (UK) Ltd. Aug. 27, 1969, No.42582/69. Heading G1S A container 4 is tested for leaks by filling with a gas beforehand or through pipe 3, evacuating the space between cover 1 and container 4 and evacuating a testing apparatus 11 sensitive to the gas in the container, closing tap 7 for a time during which evacuation of the apparatus 11 may be continued, closing tap 8 and opening taps 7 and 17 so that air enters through pipe 16 and sweeps any gas that has leaked from container 4 into the testing apparatus. The method may be applied to testing a wall, a diaphragm or a weld seam in a plate by placing a cap on either side of the article and filling one with gas while evacuating the other, then flushing any leaked gas into a testing apparatus with air.
