Abstract

517,878. Spray carburetters. CHANDLER, M. E. Aug. 9, 1538, No. 23503. [Class 7 (iii)] In a carburetter having a supply of fuel at constant pressure the fuel is conveyed to the mixing chamber by two fuel passages, one of which is provided with a regulating valve automatically controlled in dependence upon the flow of fuel in the other passage, the arrangement supplying excess fuel at a predetermined load. A pump H supplies fuel at a constant pressure, determined by a bellows W, to a chamber B having as an outlet a venturi J, the throat of which is connected by a passage G to the interior of a bellow C actuating a needle valve P controlling a fuel passage Q. The fuel flowing through the venturi J passes a reducing valve L into a diaphragm chamber M communicating by a passage N with orifices X in a nozzle bar 0 disposed across the air inlet S, and when the flow exceeds a predetermined amount, the depression created in the bellows C opens the valve P, permitting additional fuel to traverse the passage Q to an outlet T in the nozzle bar 0, air being supplied to the fuel through a passage R. The flow of fuel in the main passage N is controlled by a valve U coupled to a pair of intergeared throttle flaps and the needle' is hollow to admit air to the fuel in the bar O. A spring D supporting the bellows C may be mounted on a barometric capsule and a sharp-edged restriction replaces the venturi J.
