Abstract

778,889. Mixing air and gas. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. July 8, 1955 [Aug. 23, 1954], No. 19866/55. Class 7 (2). In a carburetter for use with gaseous fuels, comprising a metering control for supplying fuel to the induction passage, having a fuel inlet passage and a restriction in this passage and an idle system, the system includes a conduit intersecting the fuel inlet passage within the restriction and communicating with the induction passage. Butane or propane gas or other gaseous fuels may be used. The gaseous fuel from a regulator enters a passage 20. It can pass by way of a main jet 22 a passage 16 and annular chamber 12 to the induction passage. The fuel can also pass through a passage 40 which operates in parallel with the main supply. When the manifold vacuum reaches a desired low value the suction acting on the diaphragm 36 becomes inadequate to hold the valve 30 closed and an enrichment is obtained. Under idling conditions the gaseous fuel flows from passage 20 through passages 28, 26 and main jet 22 into the idle passage 46 which leads to the passage 56 (Fig. 2). The fuel passes to a chamber 58 where it is mixed with air prior to being discharged through a passage 68. A reverse flow of air is sucked through the orifices 19 and causes dilution of the idle supply.
