517,427. Discharge apparatus. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., DENISOFF, A. K., and SPIERS, J. M. S. July 27, 1938, No. 22287. [Class 39 (i)] A method of making a fluorescent screen for a cathode-ray tube or the like comprises depositing a layer of platinum on a support, removing part of the layer by mechanical means, such as ruling, to form a grid or network and then depositing the fluorescent material. The ratio of ruled width to conducting strip may be 10 : 1 and the number of cuttings may be 200 per inch. Rectangular or circular cuttings may be used and the grid may be connected to a potential source to remove charges, and may be surrounded by a continuous border.
