Abstract
517,248. Electromagnets BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 31, 1938, No. 25512. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1937. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electromagnetic core with a plurality of legs one of which has an opening forming an air gap is secured between non-magnetic conducting plates by conducting members extending through the end of each outer leg to form with the plates shading circuits. In the form shown, the fixed core 10 comprises laminae 16 clamped between brass side plates 18, 19 by rivets 20-25 and co-operates with an E-shaped magnet (not shown) for actuating, a switch. The central leg has a slot or non-magnetic inset 15 to reduce the effect of residual magnetism. As the fluxes in the inner portions 28, 29 complete their circuits inside the loop formed by the side plates and the rivets 21, 25 this flux is not " shaded but the outer portions 30, 31 are shaded as their fluxes are linked with the loops.
