Abstract

Induction relays are arranged to produce their maximum torque when supplied with current of a predetermined frequency by providing in the circuit of one of the parallel connected actuating electromagnets a condenser adjusted so that the two fields actuating the pivoted member are almost in quadrature. In the relay shown in Fig. 1 having two parallel connected coils E1, E2 on cores A1, A2 the coil E2 has a suitable capacity C in series with it in order that it shall respond to a given frequency. To make the ratio of the potential at the relay terminal to the supply voltage as high as possible an additional capacity C, may be placed in series with the relay as shown in Fig. 5. For high frequencies the gap d, Fig. 1, between the magnet poles is made large compared with the air gap in which the disc D is situated so that flux leakage is reduced. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, (3) (a) also describes a single-winding induction relay having a suitable condenser in series with this winding and short-circuited coils or shading rings on the divided pole-pieces of the electromagnet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
