516,841. Electric signalling systems. EVERSHED & VIGNOLES, Ltd., and MARCHMENT, W. T. July 25, 1938, No. 22076. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (i)] In a system having a receiver operated in step with the transmitter and comprising a number of neon or other luminous discharge lamps responding to transmitted impulses, the lamps are associated with local circuits whereby any particular lamp is maintained in a continuous luminous state as long as it is receiving impulses. The invention is described with reference to one of the synchronous distributer systems described in Specification 510,551, each neon lamp when receiving impulses being maintained in continuous discharge by the discharge of the condenser of a resistance or inductancecondenser shunt having a suitable time constant. The shunt circuit may be fed with an auxiliary voltage substantially less than the striking voltage of the lamps. In the system described each half-cycle of the A.C. supply which also drives the distributers is available for use as an impulse, and the shunt circuits are directly fed by a common transformer, but the invention is .also applicable to D.C. signalling systems.
