Abstract

516,739. Fluid-tight sealing devices. SMITH'S JACKING SYSTEMS, Ltd., (formerly SESSIONS & CO., Ltd., D.) and SESSIONS, D. W. July 6, 1938, No. 20007. [Class 122 (v)] In a lifting-jack or other fluid - actuated plunger - and - cylinder apparatus, an annular washer 12 is located in an enlarged open end 10 of the cylinder 1, and is held in posifion-by an internally threaded cap 13, screwed on to an externally threaded por tion of the cylinder, the washer and cap forming a fluid-tight seal between the cylinder 1 and the plunger 2. The cap 13 comprises a flange 14 with a frusto-conical lip 15 to form an abutment for the correspondingly shaped base of the washer which is substantially U-shaped in cross-section The cap also carries a protective packing 16 of felt or other resilient material. A short length of threaded tubing 17 limits movement of the plunger 2 out of the cylinder 1.
