Abstract
515,996. 'Oil gas. JONES, L. B. April 13, 1938, Nos. 11318 and 11394. [Class 55 (ii)] Gas is generated by spraying tar, pitch, or intermediate fractions such as creosote and anthracene, into an internally-heated chamber wherein the material is cracked to yield a gas and a solid residue. Molten' pitch supplied to an atomizer 42 is sprayed with steam through nozzles 11 or 12 to one side of the cracking chamber 2, 3 and the gas escapes from the other side through conduits 20 or 19 and traverses filter beds 22 or 21 before reaching a wash box 33. In order to heat the chamber, primary air is blown through the carbon fuel bed formed in one filter and secondary air is admitted at 17 or 18 to burn the products in the cracking chamber. The two spray nozzles and the corresponding filter beds are used alternately. Specification 367,812 is referred to.
