Oil gas.-In oil gasefying apparatus as described in Specification 279,834 the gasefier has two catalyst elements 7, 7<1>, and chambers 4, 4<1>, disposed on opposite sides of the spray nozzle 2. Air is supplied alternately through each catalyst and chamber to the nozzle, the partially combusted oil cloud passing through the other chamber and catalyst. In this way carbon residues in the first catalyst remaining from a preceding operation are burnt off while gas is continuously produced. The air is supplied from a compressor 23 to a distributor 81 and thence through conduit 82 or 82<1> according to the position of pistons 89, 89<1>. The gaseous products pass through conduits 86<1> or 86 to the distributor and issue through conduits 87, 88. The apparatus may be preliminarily heated by flames or hot gases at orifices 91. 91<1>. In a modification single pipes replace the conduits 82, 86 and 82<1>, 86<1>. Specifications 255,423, 271,899 and 271,907 are referred to.
