Abstract
515,381. Dyes ; intermediates. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. May 31, 1938, Nos. 16240 and 16241. Convention dates, June 2, 1937, and March 26, 1938. [Classes 2(iii) and 15(ii)] Arylides of 2:3-oxynaphthoic acid are made by condensing 2:3-oxynaphthoic acid or a functional derivative thereof with an aminochrysene or an aminopyrene. In examples (1)-(3) 2:3-oxynaphthoyl chloride is condensed in presence of pyridine with 3-aminopyrene, 2:8-diaminochrysene (made by dinitration and reduction of chrysene) and 3:8-diaminopyrene (made by dinitration and reduction of pyrene). Azo dyes are made by coupling the above arylides with diazo compounds containing no groups which would render the dyestuff soluble in water in substance or on the fibre. The diazo compounds may be used in stabilized form or in the form of N-nitrosamines or diazoamino compounds ; these nitrosamines and diazoamino compounds may be used in admixture with the arylides or their alkali salts as preparations. The dyes may be used for colouring lacquers and varnishes. In examples (4) diazotized 2:5-dichloraniline is coupled with the product from 2:3-oxynaphthoic acid (2 mols) and 2:8-diaminochrysene) (1 mol) ; (5) cotton is impregnated with the arylide from 2:3-oxynaphthoic acid (2 mols and 3:8-diaminopyrene (1 mol) and developed with diazotized o-nitroaniline, or (6) with 2<1>-3<1>-oxynaphthoyl-3-aminopyrene and developed with diazotized 1-amino-2-methoxy-5- chlorbenzene. A table of further components is given. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the manufacture of arylides of o-oxycarboxylic acids by causing an ooxycarboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof to react with an amine derived from a hydrocarbon having four angularly fused 6-membered rings and the manufacture of azo dyes therefrom in substance or on the fibre. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
