Abstract

515,118. Filtering charge. ,TYPHOON MANUFACTURING CO., Inc. May 24, 1938, No. 15493. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1938. [Class 7 (ii)] Air forced by a fan, not shown, through a tube 8 into a helical channel of gradually decreasing cross-section, is delivered to a carburetter air intake through a vertical pipe 30. Centrifugal force separates dust as the air passes through the helical channel which is formed between a plate 21 and plates 12, 20. The dust falls to the bottom of the channel, where it is retained by pools of oil formed around orifices that communicate with an oil reservoir 31. Staggered rows of holes 45 having lips on the air outlet side of the channel and a baffle 25 also assist in cleaning the air.
