Abstract

514,811. Injectors ; jet propulsion. WALKER, W. J., and STRASZACKER, R. L. June 8, 1938, No. 17024. [Class 71] [Also in Group XXXIII] A device for inducing motion of a fluid, or the propulsion of a body through a fluid, comprises a fan 14 or the equivalent driven by a fluid under relatively high pressure to move a main body of fluid through a main pipe or the like 19, the blades 15 of the fan being driven by pressure fluid which is supplied by nozzles 16 and is expelled into an annular chamber 17 which tapers or converges to an annular outlet 4 through which the pressure fluid is discharged into the main pipe as a relatively high velocity annular stream so as to exert an inducing action on said main body of fluid. The induced and inducing fluids may be air, gas, vapour, or water or other liquid. The width of the outlet 4 may be varied by relative adjustment of the pipes 18, 19, and the pipe 18 may be slightly larger in diameter than the pipe 19.
