545,653. Nozzles. McMYN, M. M., [Representative of McMYN, J. K.]., CLEMENTS, H. G., and SMITH, C. May 6, 1941, No. 5866. [Class 69 (iii)] A nozzle comprising a main element a for attachment to the branch pipe of a fire hose and an element e that can be adjusted axially in relation to element a and a mushroom valve d to provide a hollow jet or a diffusing spray, has an elongated webbed or partitioned member with a shaped inner end fixed in the bore of element a to correct the whirling or rotary motion imparted to the water. As shown, the elongated member consists of a solid cylindrical body or spindle b having radially disposed fins or webs c which are a forced fit in the bore a<SP>1</SP> of element a, the inner end b<SP>1</SP> being coned or shaped for the passing flow of water and the outer end having a threaded bore to take the screwed shank d<SP>1</SP> of mushroom valve d. The radial edges of fins c may approximate to knife edges so as to offer less resistance to water flow. The webs c may be curved.
