[Class 38 (i)] A shutter that covers the contact sockets and is moved to the open position by the engagement of the plug contacts with inclined surfaces on the shutter, is locked in closed position by catches that are released by the plug contacts when properly presented. In one form, locking levers h, h<1>, Fig. 1, carry bent lugs i that engage projections j on the shutter a mounted to turn on a pivot b under the action of the plug contacts on inclined surfaces g. The part h<2> of each lever h projects into the path of the plug contacts and when both levers are displaced by the plug contacts the shutter is free to turn. Springs l, l<1> restore the levers to locking position the spring l acting also on a lever d to return the shutter to its closed position. In a modification, a single locking lever x, Fig. 2, engages a shoulder u<1> on the shutter p and is released by the earth-pin engaging the part x<2> of the lever. The lever is restored by a spring l<2> that also acts on a lever x<1> mounted on the same pivot m and serving to turn the shutter into its closed position, in which it is arrested by a stop s.
