[Class 22] In the manufacture of refractory brick suitable for use without kiln-firing, chrome-ore is ground to pass a 5-mesh screen, mixed with water, 0.5-2.0 per cent. of sulphuric acid, more than 15 per cent. of periclase or dead-burned magnesite, the mixture is pressed into bricks under pressure exceeding 1,000 lbs. per square inch, and the bricks are heated at a temperature exceeding 125‹F. in a moist atmosphere partially to hydrate the periclase, and are then dried. Between 1 and 5 per. cent. of kaolin may be added as additional bonding material. The magnesite may be ground to pass a 100-mesh screen, or a part of it may be of coarser grain.
