Abstract

559,462. Ceramic material. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 17, 1942, No. 9964. Convention date, April 3, 1941. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 22 and 70] Steatite-type ceramic material for electric insulation purposes &c., and particularly for use as supports for the elements in vacuum tubes, is prepared by firing a mixture of 64- 86 per cent. talcs., 8-30 per cent. clay and 6- 20 per cent. magnesia or an amount of magnesium carbonate, sulphate, nitrate &c., which produces this amount of oxide on firing. The material may be rendered porous by incorporating an organic substance such as wood flour which is burned out on firing, and may be rendered rough by using calcined raw materials. The materials may be ground together in a ball mill to produce a slip which may be cast or extruded, or may be partially dried by heating or filtering and moulded in a press. Specification 478,794 is referred to.
