Abstract

513,792. Hinges. ROETHEL, J. H., and MARVEL EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. April 20, 1938, No. 11825. [Class 65 (ii)] A locker having a lid is provided with cooperating means on the hinged members so that on successive opening and closing movements, the lid becomes automatically locked in the open position. On opening the lid 11 the wheel 19 slides along the base 22 of the member 16 until the tooth 19a contacts with the cam surface 23 ; further opening will cause the tooth 19a to enter the notch 24 and partially rotate the wheel 19, this in turn will allow the tooth 19c to clear the corner 22a. Hence, when the lid is lowered the tooth 19c will enter the notch 25 and lock the hinge members in the open position. The cam edge 25a of the notch effects another partial rotation of the wheel which allows the tooth 19a to clear the corner 24a. To unlock, the lid is raised, the tooth 19a enters the recess 26, and the cam surface 26a effects a further rotation of the wheel 19 so that the tooth 19c clears the notch 25. The tooth 19c enters the recess 27 on the lowering of the lid and rides over the corner 22a which gives another turn to the wheel as the parts assume their original positions. The hinge members 16, 17 are attached to body 10 and lid 11 by welding.
