Abstract
520,933. Doors for buildings. MAUSER, K. W., MAUSER, R., and MAUSER, A. July 24, 1938, No. 15531. [Class 20 (iii)] A door arangement for a gas-proof shelter or room comprises a hinged door member 4', Fig. 1, having a packing gasket 14 around the edges and a sill member also having packing means and pivotally mounted so as to be movable to give an unobstructed floor passage when the door is open. The sill member 5 may be pivoted to the door and be urged by a spring 8 into contact with the floor when the door is closed against the frame 1, a gasket 7 being carried at the bottom of the sill. In one modification a sill member 9, Fig. 6, is pivoted to the bottom of the door frame so that it may be held erect against the frame or lowered to operative position. When erected it may be turned about a vertical hinge into a recess in the door frame. In another arrangement, shown in plan in Fig. 9, a sill member 17 is pivoted at 18 to the face of the door frame and may be engaged at its free. end by a wedge 21 into a recess formed by a stop member' 23. A catch may be employed to retain it in upright position against the resistance of a spring 19 on the hinge. In a further form the sill member 28, Figs. 15, 16 is mounted on preferably eccentric pivots in a frame 33 sunk in the floor, so that it may lie' flush with the floor, Fig. 15, or be raised to complete the door closure, Fig. 16. An arm 34 pivotally mounted on the sill is adapted when set at right angles to the sill in normal conditions, to be engaged by an arm 35 projecting from the door 4 so'as to raise the sill as the door is closed. The sill may be lowered under the action of gravity or positively as the door is opened, and the arm 34 may be lowered when the sill is not to be used.
