[Class 44] The keeper member of a hook catch is made freely movable in all directions in a plane perpendicular to the direction of engagement to counteract any relative movement of the parts to be locked. The keeper member, Fig. 7, has a yoke 37 attached to a base plate 41 slidably mounted between two plates 38, 39 rigidly attached to the lid. The yoke 37 is provided with a roller 42 and is tapered to facilitate engagement with the lock casing. When the lid is shut the keeper engages the spring-loaded hook catch 29 and can only be disengaged by pressing button 7 inwards. Through button 7 is a keyway 13 for key 14 used to operate the lock preventing movement of button 7. Fig. 10 shows the lock in unlocked position. On rotation of key 14 the plate 15 is moved about pivot 16 and detent 25 moved clear of rearwardly projecting finger 24. Further rotation of the key slides the locking plate 18 on pins 16, 19 and releases plate 15 and detent 25 moves underneath finger 24 and holds plate 18 in a new position in which the rearwardly projecting lug 23 obstructs the movement of button 7.
